Manitoba’s new Express Entry pathway invites its first candidates

There have been around 155 candidates invited to apply for the provincial nomination in the first ever draw held through Manitoba’s new Express Entry aligned pathway.

The first draw was conducted on January 11th in which the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) issued 155 Letters of Advice to Apply or LAAs through the Manitoba Express Entry Pathway to the candidates who are eligible. However, the candidates needed to have a score of at least 565 under the Expression of Interest system to receive a LAA.

The Express Entry Pathway was included in the three categories which were featured in the MPNP draw which was held on January 11th. Also, additional skilled workers were also invited through the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream.

Moreover, under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream there were about 119 candidates were invited even with having the lowest rank of having a score of 520.

To be included in the pathway and to get eligible for the pathway, a candidate must have a valid profile in both the Manitoba’s Expression of Interest pool and the federal Express Entry pool along with having six months of work experience in an occupation listed on the Manitoba’s new In-Demand Occupation list.

The province has said that the Express Entry pathway is targeted for candidates who demonstrate and show so called high human values. The applicant must also have the confirmed support of a relative or it could be a friend who is living in Manitoba for a year at least.

Here are some fictional examples which would give you an idea of the kind of candidates who are being selected and invited to apply to the MPNP through its Express Entry Pathway.

Shiv, who is a 33 year old man and he possess a high-intermediate English language proficiency. He has a bachelor degree, has a work experience as a software engineer along with having a profile in both Express Entry pool as a Federal Skilled Worker. Shiv has an uncle who has been living in Manitoba and he plans to reside in Manitoba but outside of Winnipeg. His ranking of 610 would be higher than the cut score 565 to get an invitation from Manitoba.

Express Entry Pathway and Manitoba’s In-Demand Occupation List has been part of the sweeping overhaul of the MPNP which was unveiled on November 15th. Manitoba is among the eight provinces which have Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) component and many of them doesn’t require a family connection to the province.

The Express Entry-aligned PNP streams are allowing the provinces to invite the Federal Express Entry applicants to apply for the enhanced provincial nomination. By getting this nomination, an additional of 600 points was added to the Comprehensive Ranking System score of the Express Entry candidates. The additional points are usually sufficient to trigger the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply in such cases.
